IDEAS GATHERING

01. brainstorm

[from_04_july_2024]

due to the razing anxiety levels i started thinking about the diploma topic right after the last assessment of the previous academic year.

// i made a lot of thinking about approaching this project:

in terms of topic i was thinking a lot about the future, technologies, digital space, ai, ethics, culture, education, science, internet development and other things that would be interesting to research and rethink. there was a lot of fascinating ideas but i wasn’t sure about their outcome.

i could face something completely new and spend the whole time doing research to get something not explored enough in the end. or i could choose something already familiar to have an ability to dig dipper and get a properly developed outcome.

[25_august_2024]

// 3 weeks before the beginning of study I had a moment of enlightenment:

diploma is a culmination of my education journey. this is the end of my student experience. what do people do in the end of something? they sum up everything. why don’t I do the same and sum up the experience gained at britanka?

[15_september_2024]

// in the begging of academic year I left with 2 concepts:

  1. to design an object that will sum up and share my educational experience.
  2. to develop a complex project about graphical interpretation of cognitive processes. basically visualise a cognitive architecture.

02. pitching, thinking and developing

[16_september_2024]

// we got the diploma brief

I've been sharing these two concepts with my mates, teachers, friends and even strangers to get feedback, better understand my thoughts and decide what would work best for a diploma.

just compare graphic design and illustration briefs:

// i decided to stick the first option

(to create an object to summarise and share my educational experience) because it felt undoubtedly logical and natural in my particular case.

the second one could be developed independently by yourself in the background with no deadlines, because it would definitely take a longer period of time (i truly believed that I could run two gigantic projects in parallel and do at least two other projects at the university at the same time...).

*as you may have noticed, i haven't properly learnt the lesson that says: ‘a project takes 3 times longer than intended’.

after i picked the topic. i tried to get everything i was thinking about it out of my head.

criteria / constraints / guides of the outcome

things i like in design and want my project to have them, things i hate and don’t want the project to have them.

intensions

things i want to tell in this project and what i’m doing it for.

approximate structure and content sketches

i listed all sections and ideas inside them that i want to share.

outcome and questions

things i don’t know yet and question that will her me to improve the project.

// this is the map I got:

THE OUTCOME:

a book with an engaging narrative of my 4 years at "britanka", education in general and some unexpected data.

// research

i wanted to delve deeper into the topic of education in graphic design. so I found some papers that might be useful.

didn't expect it to take a whole day…

every diploma project in previous year had a process book. now there is no such requirement but i want to get the full experience, so I will design it too.
